There was a gap
nobody was filling.
We were living in Switzerland — one of the most sustainability-conscious countries in the world — and yet every time we wanted to buy something made ethically, something made by people who were genuinely paid fairly and by hands that genuinely cared, we hit the same wall: claims without evidence. Stories without substance. "Sustainable" as a marketing word, not a provable reality.
At the same time, we knew — personally, because we'd grown up in it — that India had an entire world of extraordinary makers. Artisans working with ancient techniques. Small brands built on deep environmental consciousness. Designers creating genuinely beautiful things with genuinely clean hands. And almost none of them could reach a European customer who would love them.
Nobody had built the bridge. So we decided we would.

Six in ten environmental claims made in the fashion industry have been found to be unsubstantiated. That is not a fringe problem — it is how most of the industry operates. Brands use words like "conscious," "sustainable," and "eco" because they test well in focus groups, not because they reflect reality.
The EU's Green Claims Directive, which came into force in March 2026, now makes this illegal. Brands must be able to prove what they claim. Re:Nova was built to exactly that standard before the law existed. We never needed a regulation to tell us that honesty matters.
Every brand you find on Re:Nova has been through our full verification process — 60 questions, 35 evidence checkpoints, across six dimensions of sustainability. If they can't prove it, they don't appear here. It is genuinely that simple.
